SCRIPTURAL WISDOM : DAILY MEDITATION ON THE WORD OF GOD

La première lecture d'aujourd'hui nous amène au livre du prophète Zacharie. Au début de ce message nous lisons : «Chante et réjouis-toi, ô fille de Sion ! Voyez, je viens habiter parmi vous, dit le Seigneur . Mais qui est cette «fille de Sion» invitée à se réjouir en chantant au Seigneur ? L'expression «Fille de Sion» est utilisée pour symboliser Jérusalem , le cœur du judaïsme. En utilisant cette imagerie féminine, le prophète veut refléter la tendresse du peuple et son besoin de protection de Dieu. Le message de Zacharie est une promesse divine annonçant un temps future de rédemption, où Dieu habitera au milieu de son peuple, lui offrant salut et sécurité. Israël a reçu cette mission divine : diffuser la connaissance du Dieu Unique au monde entier. Par conséquent, la promesse que Dieu lui a faite s’étend à toute la création parce que l’humanité avait déjà été bénie à travers Abraham (Genèse 22 : 18). Today’s first reading takes us to the book of the Prophet Zechariah. At the beginning of this message we read : “Sing and Rejoice, O daughter of Zion! See, I am coming to dwell among you says the Lord.” But who is this “daughter of Zion” invited to be joyful, singing to the Lord? The expression “Daughter of Zion” is used her to symbolize Jerusalem, the heart of Judaism. By using this feminine imagery, the prophet wants to reflect the tenderness of the people and their need for God’s protection.  Zechariah’ message is a divine promise of a future time of redemption, when God will dwell in the midst of His people, providing them with salvation and security. Israel has received this divine mission: to spread the knowledge of the Unique God to the whole world. Hence, promise of God made to her is extended to all creation because already humanity had been blessed through Abraham (Genesis 22:18).   When we read Luke 5:17-26, we can see a powerful story that shows us how faith, teamwork, and spiritual healing played a crucial role in Jesus' ministry. Luke started by stating that Jesus was sitting with the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. The geographical locations specified here indicate that Jesus’ presence drew people from North to South. In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches not only through words but also through a salvific action. Let us meditate on some of the aspects of the Gospel. As Jesus was teaching, some men brought a paralyzed man to Jesus but could not get access to him because of the crowd. They didn't let the crowded room deter them from getting their friend the help he needed. Instead, they found a way to lower him through the roof. Luke says that Jesus “ saw their faith he said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you !” Their faith in Jesus' ability to heal shows us how faith can help

As we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of our Blessed Mother Mary, I would like to wish us all “Happy Feast”! What we are celebrating today is beyond a Dogma proclaimed in 1854 by Pope Pius IX. We are celebrating the fulfillment of God’s promise in today’s first reading. Following the fall of Adam and Eve, God promised to salvage humanity through a woman when he said to the ancient serpent: “I will put enmity between you and the Woman…” (Genesis 3:9-20) . Because of the fall of Adam and Eve, sin, disobedience, and death have entered the world. Individually and collectively, we experience these realities. The tendency to disobey God, to be lured into the seduction of Satan and his agents is an experience we have right from childhood. In Mother Mary, God has restored to us what we lost because of the sin of Adam and Eve. In a constantly evolving world, where traditional values are often challenged by emerging perspectives, it is crucial for humanity to have a steadfast base upon which to construct their lives and futures. As Christians, we find this enduring foundation in the Word of God, offering us stability.   The word of God today provides us with such profound insight.   In the first reading, Isaiah invites us to trust in the Lord as an “eternal Rock”. This speaks to the unchanging, steadfast nature of God's presence and support. In a world where everything is constantly shifting, where uncertainty and change are the constants, this message offers us hope and stability. For us Christians, this means finding comfort and strength in the Word of God, especially during difficult times. It's a reminder that, even amidst the chaos of life, there is a foundation that remains unshakable – the Word of God, His eternal Love for us.
