OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY: REFLECTION ON MOTHER MARY’S VOCATION AND OUR CHRISTIAN VOCATION. (Acts 1: 12-14 and Luke 1:26-28)

Today, as we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, we are invited to contemplate the role of Mary in God's magnificent plan of salvation.

In the biblical passages chosen today, we see Mary's humble beginning, a young girl from Nazareth, graced by the visitation of an angel. We contemplate her courage, her faith, and her humility. Mary's fiat, her “yes”to God, stands as a beacon for all Christians. “Let it be done unto me according to your word,” she says, a testament to her unwavering trust and surrender to God's will. It was as if both Heaven and Earth held their breath, awaiting Mother Mary’s response. We can imagine God anticipating her “yes,” so that God’s promise in Genesis 3, 15 could be fulfilled. Indeed, from that very moment she said yes, “the head of the ancient serpent started being crushed.” This act of trust paved the way for the Incarnation and the birth of Jesus, marking a monumental moment in salvation history. Mary there at the beginning of this victorious battle and was there at the end, at the feet of the Cross. She has been given to us by her son as our Mother.

Prayer as dialogue with God : Today’s feast teaches us also the importance of dialogue with God. When Mary asked Angel Gabriel: “How can this be, (Behold you shall conceive and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus), since I have no relations with a man”? it became an opportunity for the Angel of God to elucidate her mission further : “The Holy Spirit will be upon you, and the Power of the Most High will overshadow you.” We too, need to emulate Mother Mary’s example and  dialogue with God, regardless of the challenge we face in life, remembering that “For nothing is impossible for God”.

In Acts of the Apostle, we contemplate Mary as a pillar of strength for the early Christian community. Following the Ascension of Jesus, when fear reigned among the disciples, Mary was present with the apostles, united in prayer. This paints an image of Mary not only as the mother of Jesus but as the spiritual mother of the Church, nurturing and guiding it in its infancy.

As we contemplate Mary’s role, we are reminded of her profound trust in God’s providence, her deep prayer life, and her faithfulness to her unique vocation. In the mystery of the rosary, through repetitive prayer and contemplation of the significant events in the life of Jesus and Mary, we are called to reflect on how God is working in our own lives.

Mary's Role in Our Lives Today:

In today’s diverse and complex world, many feel the weight of uncertainty about their purpose or vocation. Yet, Mary’s example can serve as a compass. Regardless of our particular walks of life, whether we are professionals, students, parents, or in any other capacity, we can look to Mary as a model of listening and openness to God's calling.

Mary shows us that our vocation as Christians is first and foremost to be in relationship with God and to trust in His divine plan. Even if our purpose seems unclear, or the challenges we face insurmountable, a prayerful heart and a trusting spirit can guide us. Whenever we are praying the Rosary, let’s remember that Mother Mary is there with us, praying with us and for us.

By turning to Mary and the rosary, we open ourselves to her maternal guidance. We are reminded that just as she was instrumental in God’s plan of salvation, we too have a unique role to play. With Mary as our guide, we can discover that role, embrace our Christian vocation, and find the path that leads us closer to Christ.

On this special feast day, let us ask for the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary. May she guide us, inspire us, and bring us ever closer to the heart of her Son. Through her example, may we find the strength and grace to say our own “yes” to God and realize the beauty and depth of our Christian vocation in every walk of life. Amen.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father,

Guided by Mary’s unwavering “yes” and deep faith, help us navigate our uncertainties. May we, like Mary, seek Your wisdom in every challenge and remember that with You, all things are possible. As she stood firm in faith, let us also be steadfast. Mary, guide us closer to the heart of Jesus. Grant us the grace to embrace our calling and respond with a resounding “yes” to Your will.

Amen.

HAPPY FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY TO ALL 🙏🙏🙏
