SCRIPTURAL WISDOM : DAILY MEDITATION ON THE WORD OF GOD

Background of the story: The book of Jonah opens with the word of the Lord coming to Jonah, the son of Amittai. God commands Jonah to go to Nineveh, a great city with wicked people, and cry out against it. Instead of obeying God’s command, Jonah flees to Tarshish, hoping to escape God’s presence. He boards a ship, but the Lord sends a storm that threatens to sink the ship. When the sailors determined that Jonah is the cause of the storm, he admitted his disobedience and suggested that they throw him overboard to calm the storm. The sailors, initially reluctant, eventually complied. Once Jonah is thrown into the sea, the storm ceased, and the Lord sent a great fish to swallow Jonah, where he remained for three days and three nights. This story serve as a great lesson for us today.   The Inescapable Presence of God: Jonah tried to run from the presence of the Lord, thinking he could escape His watchful gaze and mandate.   Aujourd'hui, alors que nous célébrons la fête de Notre-Dame du Rosaire, nous sommes invités à contempler le rôle de Marie dans le magnifique dessein de salut de Dieu. Dans les passages bibliques choisis aujourd'hui, nous voyons les humbles débuts de Marie, une jeune fille de Nazareth, bénie par la visite d'un ange. Today, as we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, we are invited to contemplate the role of Mary in God's magnificent plan of salvation. In the biblical passages chosen today, we see Mary's humble beginning, a young girl from Nazareth, graced by the visitation of an angel. We contemplate her courage, her faith, and her humility. Mary's fiat, her “yes”to God, stands as a beacon for all Christians. “ Let it be done unto me according to your word,” she says, a testament to her unwavering trust and surrender to God's will. It was as if both Heaven and Earth held their breath, awaiting Mother Mary’s response. We can imagine God anticipating her “yes,” so that God’s promise in Genesis 3, 15 could be fulfilled . Indeed, from that very moment she said yes, “ the head of the ancient serpent started being crushed. ” This act of trust paved the way for the Incarnation and the birth of Jesus, marking a monumental moment in salvation history. Au cœur de la lecture d’aujourd’hui se trouve une profonde reconnaissance de la fragilité humaine. C'est une reconnaissance que, bien que Dieu nous ait accordé de nombreuses bénédictions, conseils et amour, les humains se sont détournés à maintes reprises de Dieu, ont refusé d'écouter sa voix, poursuivant leurs propres désirs, ambitions, etc. La conversion du cœur commence par la nécessité de la reconnaissance Avouer et admettre nos péchés n’est pas un signe de faiblesse mais une manifestation d’humilité. Le peuple de Juda l’a reconnu. Ils n’ont pas caché leurs transgressions, mais les ont reconnus de front, les confessant avec un cœur sincère.   In the heart of today’s reading there’s a profound acknowledgment of human frailty. It’s a recognition that though God has bestowed upon us numerous blessings, guidance, and love, humans have time and time again turned away from God, refused to listen to His voice, chasing after their own desires, ambitions, etc. Conversion of heart starts with the Necessity of Acknowledgment To confess and admit our shortcomings is not a sign of weakness but a manifestation of humility. The people of Judah recognized this. They did not run away from their transgressions but faced them head-on, confessing with genuine hearts. It is quite interesting to see that in the text various categories of people are mentioned: kings, rulers, priests, prophets, and ancestors: “ they all have sinned in the Lord’s sight and disobeyed him” . Il ne s’agit pas des douze apôtres dont nous entendons souvent parler, mais d’un groupe plus large de 72 disciples.
